The Internet world can be a very intimidating place for Internet Marketing. Business is very competitive to begin with and the bottom line for most marketers is “Money”. You know what they say, “Money makes the world go round.” Most people will do just about anything for money. But there is a major difference between internet business and regular business. In the regular business world you have to face the people you deal with. It‘s a special person who can be un-ethical with you when they have to deal with you eye to eye and there are many. But on the Internet you never have to deal with an actual person making it easier to miss represent what ever it is you’re selling.  This makes many Internet users very wary of dealing with people on the Net. I myself have bought many items on the Internet that were sold as essential to Internet Marketing only to find that the restrictions for using or selling the items were prohibitive. Many of the items didn’t work and when you went to the website of the seller they were no longer there or the items were no longer supported. In many cases a contact e-mail was provided but you never got a response.

Business is harder for Ethical Marketers because you are automatically associated with the un-ethical ones. Many marketers think you have to become a little unethical or else how do you compete with the other guys.  If you don’t sell how do you maintain your business? Many of us have heard the verse "Money is the root of all evil." (1 Tim. 6:10). However, many fail to realize that there is more to this verse that changes its meaning. When you read the whole verse, you can actually see that it says "For the love of money is the root of all evil." That's right: money in itself is not the source of all evil because money is an inanimate object. It is what the money is used for and what we did to get the money that’s the problem.  A lot of good has been produced by money. Many are the blessings that come from the wise use of money.

The love of money and the greed associated with its use is the root of many problems associated with Internet marketing. The Internet Marketers should never let greed rule his judgment. Money is important. However, you should not let its possession dictate your actions. You should not let it rule your life. Do not make decisions that favor money instead of those that favor human beings, another name for your customers.

Greed, as we all know, is dangerous not just too Internet Marketers, but to your customers as well. Many people fail because greed compromises their principles. Those individuals who succeed because of unethical principles end up compromising there integrity.  Principles help keep a person in line. These individuals, in turn, build their businesses based on ethical principles.

And there are consequences for Un-ethical Marketers. Look at what has happened to Wall Street. They let their standards lapse trying to make as much money as possible. But when things came to a crunch, they lost. Now the rest of us have to decide if we should bail them out. I was listening to an interview the News Media was having with a Car Dealer. The car dealer was devastated because business had dropped 80% and he was blaming the Banks and the Auto Makers for the problems. It was kind of the pot calling the kettle “Black.”

So what do you need to get started on your path? Look at yourself and see what it takes to maintain your standard. What products would you be willing to buy? These may be the products you are willing to sell. What services can you render without compromising you ethics? How do you like to be treated when you request a service? What are your expectations?  These are tough questions that only you can answer.
